JAR - FCL PPL (A) Skill test - September 2007
19/09/2007 by Mr Shoe Wingtips.
1 year ago i was very dazed and confused. I like having options and yet i found myself at a dead end. Having spent many years working closely with Alan McGee (the driving force behind Oasis) at Creation, I was managing highly successful bands such as the Libertines. I experienced the roller-coaster ‘bona fide’ rock-and-roll lifestyle. When my time in the UK music industry ended i found my self looking for fresh possibilities and experiences. Ground Exams Passed and finished.
23/08/2007 by Mr Shoe Wingtips.
Monday of this week i arrived at Cranfield for a flying lesson only to find that the weather would stop all flying for the day..
Instead i did some ground school on Navigation and attempted the exam. I failed and got 70%. Fear not, having gone through the paper with the examiner i attempted paper 2 and it was with great joy that i felt when i was told that i passed and achieved 80%…This meant that i have completed all 7 ground exams after 4 months of PPL training. I have my RT practical to do and take the general flight test once all training is complete.
My PPL Exam results:
Meteorology 80%
Human Performance and limitations 100%
Aircraft General and principles of flight 86%
Flight planning and performance 84%
Navigation 80%

Radio Telephony Exam - Theory
10/08/2007 by Mr Shoe Wingtips.
Every time i prepare for an exam, i always have doubt about whether i will pass or not, have done enough to work for each, should i extend my revision period. One thing that i do do is i go for it when i feel that i can take it, or at least the first attempt.
I knew that i would only have one sortie today and so i stayed at home for an extra, read up again and again my PPL confuser book and AFE questions and answers simplifier book - i like the AFE one more.
I arrived at Cranfield, had a cup of tea, then sat the paper. Read the rest of this entry »

Exam - Flight Planning and performance
09/08/2007 by Mr Shoe Wingtips.
Yesterday i sat Flight planning and performance and wasn’t expecting to take. I have found a nice room at Cranfield Flight Training where i can study and look at aeroplanes all day. The kitchen is close too so the cups of tea flow my way nicely. The great thing about Cranfield is that there are students at all levels and they are very student friendly. The location is perfect for me, I can either drive from west london which only takes 1 hrs 15mins, slightly closer them lashams and much closer then norwich.
I PASSED MY 5TH EXAM and got 85%…I have now got RT theory and practical plus Navigation theory and FINAL general flight test to go. I may take RT theory before the end of the week.

Norwich Air Centre Day 4 - G-BSSC Ex 12 and 13 continued - Glide approach
02/08/2007 by Mr Shoe Wingtips.
Yesterday my brain was worked very very hard and i was glad to be flying with Jack again. I got on very well with him and very much liked his teaching style.
Every evening and during my breaks in the day i have been studying Principles of Flight and the Aircraft general (mechanical and technical) ground studies. It is a subject that i have not been enjoying studying as i found the area a little taxing. However having talked to mum and got some wise words i got back to it this week and focused on it. Bit by bit i started to get to understand it. I did 3 practice papers and averaged at 85%. This morning when i saw Jack i asked him if i should take the exam whilst the knowledge is fresh in my mind. He said why not.

30/05/2007 by Mr Shoe Wingtips.
Today is my last revision day before i take the met exam for the second time tomorrow. I wanted to go flying tomorrow but looing at taf, mets, form 215 and 214 and temp, dewpoint temp has suggested that it will rain all day tomorrow everywhere in the UK. The below link is very interesting for those that want to decode the weather better.

Day 4: ex 2,4,5, (6) straight & Level (2), Flaps
21/04/2007 by Mr Shoe Wingtips.
We flew up to 1500 feet and it was a great day until we took off when the sun went behind the clouds. ..we also had a very interesting take off and got to have 2 for the price of one as they say..i shall not continue with the story but let you work out why perhaps that may have been… it was fun though and it was an experience worth having at a safe altitude..
